Cobham SATCOM AVIATOR 300D SwiftBroadband system approved for range of uses on A319, A320 and A321 aircraft models including cabin Wi-Fi, cockpit connectivity and pilot/crew voice communications
LYNGBY, Denmark - The
innovative Cobham SATCOM AVIATOR 300D SwiftBroadband solution has
received a Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) Supplemental Type
Certificate (STC) for installation aboard the Airbus aircraft A319,
A320 and A321.
The use of the versatile Cobham AVIATOR 300D SwiftBroadband
system on the Airbus single aisle aircraft will improve
communications, connectivity and flight safety onboard. The
benefits to the cabin crew include the ability to use all Personal
Electronic Devices (PEDs) via cabin Wi-Fi, for credit card
processing and crew voice calls, while pilots will be able to stay
connected with airline operations.
The certification includes the activation of the AVIATOR 300D's
built-in Wi-Fi option, which offers access to a range of
communications capabilities for both the cockpit and cabin
crew. As the system is approved for the use of all Personal
Electronic Devices via cabin Wi-Fi, any cabin crew device with
Wi-Fi capability can be used to send real time data to and from the
aircraft for services such as real-time credit card processing
servicing premium passengers and crew voice calls.
The STC also allows for the use of AVIATOR Wired or Wi-Fi
handsets to contact MedAire's MedLink Global Response Centre when a
medical situation arises during the flight.
Improving flight safety and operations by enabling the airline
operations department to stay connected to their aircraft at all
times, the AVIATOR 300D enables cockpit connectivity for ACARS over
SwiftBroadband on the Airbus aircraft. Using Inmarsat
SwiftBroadband IP data and voice over IP (VoIP) capabilities,
AVIATOR 300D provides services such as aircraft flight
tracking information and Ethernet ports for connecting devices such
as Aircraft Interface Devices (AIDs) and Electronic Flight Bags
(EFBs) for the pilots to obtain real-time information including
graphical weather updates.Cockpit Voice is enabled by a PTA-12
dialer for pilot voice communications.
The certified Cobham system for the Airbus aircraft is a compact
2 MCU size SwiftBroadband unit with a flange-mounted Diplexer Low
Noise Amplifier which connects to an IGA-5001 SwiftBroadband
Intermediate Gain Antenna. The STC also certifies two cabin Wi-Fi
antennas for installation in the cabin.
The STC is developed and owned by Avionics Support Group Inc
(ASG), who also developed the certification for the Cobham SATCOM
AVIATOR 300 solution for the same Airbus airframe types last
year.
The AVIATOR 300D is part of Cobham's cutting-edge SwiftBroadband
product portfolio, which provides a cost effective solution for a
wide range of airframes, with a full range of features and options.
The full Cobham SATCOM AVIATOR range includes the revolutionary
AVIATOR S series, AVIATOR 700 and 700D, AVIATOR 350 with High Gain
Antenna (HGA), AVIATOR 300 and 300D with IGA as well as the
exceptionally compact and lightweight AVIATOR 200 with Low Gain
Antenna (LGA).
