Upgrades to Cobham SATCOM AVIATOR 700D System on Dassault Falcon Jets Reach 100 Mark

More customers now benefiting from high speed data services provided by cost-effective retrofit satcom solution

LYNGBY, Denmark - More than 100 Dassault Falcon Jets have been upgraded to Cobham SATCOM's AVIATOR 700D, a powerful retrofit solution for the Aero-HSD+ equipped aircraft.

A cost-effective and easy replacement for existing Level-E AVIATOR 700 and Aero-HSD+ systems, the AVIATOR 700D system supports a wide range of communications applications in both the cockpit and cabin including in-flight Wi-Fi and voice calling.

The successful upgrade program, which has minimal impact on the aircraft wiring and structure, has resulted in significant benefits for customers using a range of Dassault Falcon jets, including the Falcon 900EX EASy and Falcon 2000EX EASy, and Falcon 7X.

The certified Cobham solution is fully CPDLC FANS 1/A compliant, bringing critical safety, navigational and performance data directly into the cockpit to reduce pilot workload, increase efficiency and improve overall operational safety.

Providing both Inmarsat Classic and SwiftBroadband services in one integrated system, AVIATOR 700D introduces high speed data services using an HGA antenna for increased reliability and connectivity for customers.

Kim Gram, vice president of Cobham SATCOM's aeronautical business unit, said: "We are pleased to announce that over 100 customers are now experiencing the benefits of upgrading to our FANS-compliant AVIATOR 700D system, which include fuel and time savings, increased aircraft longevity, cockpit connection, and increased cabin data connectivity for voice calls, as well as the use of smartphones and tablets and entertainment.

"As a tried and tested, certified solution, we continue to receive positive feedback about the system's performance and capability to demonstrate complete functionality of the cockpit data, as well as easy integration with the aircraft's existing systems."

Dassault Falcon Jet-owned Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) has conducted more than 65 Falcon upgrades to the AVIATOR 700D representing a 60% worldwide market share for the service centre network.

The success of the AVIATOR 700D as a FANS and SBB solution for the EASy Falcon fleet has resulted in Dassault Falcon Jet certifying the retrofit solution for Legacy Falcons as part of the company's Next Gen programs.

Reflecting the importance placed on using OEM SBB STCs for FANS compliance, Dassault Falcon Jet MRO has already developed, certified and installed an AVIATOR 700D STC for Falcon 900EX, and has a range of STCs for AVIATOR 300 and 350 systems.

The new level of connectivity offered by the AVIATOR 700D provides the 'office in the sky' technology and other efficiency and security benefits expected by owners of Dassault Falcon Jets, which are known for their exceptional cabin comfort and technological innovation.

Adrian Chene, Avionics Technical Representative for Duncan Aviation, commented: "The AVIATOR 700D is very easy to install and configure. It was a very easy decision for Duncan Aviation to pursue multiple STCs for the AVIATOR 700D satcom."

Cobham SATCOM has already been selected by Dassault for the supply of its HGA-6000 satcom antenna for the new Falcon 5X and 8X aircraft.

The AVIATOR 700D is part of Cobham SATCOM's portfolio of innovative SwiftBroadband solutions, consisting of the AVIATOR S series, plus the AVIATOR 200, 300, 350 and 700, which support a range of advanced applications including cockpit voice dialling, in-flight calling and internet browsing.
